Iceman To Wait For Royal Meeting

Iceman is to bypass Saturday´s Boylesports Irish 2000 Guineas and will instead be prepared for Royal Ascot at York, where he holds an entry in the St James´s Palace Stakes.

John Gosden´s colt was a winner at the Royal meeting when taking last year´s Coventry Stakes but has had mixed fortunes in his two three-year-old starts.

He was an eyecatching fourth when running on late in the Craven Stakes, but then finished a substandard 13th when returning to Newmarket for the 2000 Guineas.

'We thought he was a top-of-the-ground horse and had hoped he would appreciate the going in the 2000 Guineas,' Chris Richardson, managing director of owners Cheveley Park Stud, told the Racing Post.

'However, he didn´t appear to handle the conditions on the day, because he wouldn´t let himself down, and the plan at present is to aim him for the Royal meeting.'
