Icon Leads Leger Hopefuls

Ante-post favourite Sixties Icon heads a list of 21 horses to stand their ground for the Ladbrokes St Leger at York on September 9.

Jeremy Noseda's charge won the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood on his last start and the sponsors currently have him as their 5-2 market leader.

Aidan O'Brien's Septimus is next in the list at 5-1, despite being off the track since disappointing in the Derby.

He is one of seven entries from Ballydoyle along with Fire And Rain, Magicalmysterytour, Mountain, Puerto Rico, Savannah and Tusculum.

Youmzain and Red Rocks, first and second in Wednesday's Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, also figure prominently in the betting for the final Classic of the season.

Derby winner Sir Percy has been withdrawn as trainer Marcus Tregoning relies on Jadalee while Sir Michael Stoute, who has never won the oldest Classic, has left in Ask and Book Of Music.

However, Voltigeur disappointments Papal Bull and Stage Gift have both been taken out of the race.

Godolphin have withdrawn all of their possibles and will be without a runner in the Classic while Soapy Danger has also been removed after suffering an injury in the Voltigeur.
