Impact Pleases At Chantilly

Japanese star Deep Impact turned in an satisfactory performance as he worked over six furlongs at Chantilly yesterday.

The four-year-old, who is being prepared for a crack at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday week, has been lodging with Carlos Laffon-Parias since his arrival in France.

The Sunday Silence colt has only been beaten once in 11 starts and trainer Yasuo Ikee is now planning a final gallop next week ahead of the big race.

'I was very satisfied with his work,' said Ikee. 'His time was not too fast but not too slow either. It was better than I expected.

'Everything is currently going according to plan and everything seems to be perfect.

'Deep Impact will be ready whenever the race is run.

'He will have his final piece of work next Wednesday and that will be his last one before the race.'
