Injured Muwakleh retired to stud

Muwakleh has been retired to stud due to a knee injury she sustained when runner-up in the Sagitta 1000 Guineas.

Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum`s filly picked up a slab fracture of her right knee in the closing stages of the fillies` Classic at Newmarket on Sunday, it has been announced on the Godolphin website.

Muwakleh, ridden by Frankie Dettori, made a brave effort to make all the running and was only beaten a neck by Ameerat. The third, Toroca was a length and three-quarters away in third place.

It was the one and only time the Saeed bin Suroor-trained filly ran on turf and the only time she was beaten in three outings.

The Machiavellian filly, bred by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, won twice on dirt at Nad Al Sheba.

The full sister to 1999 Dubai World Cup winner Almutawakel took the inaugural Moonshell Mile on her debut in February and then ran out an impressive winner of the UAE 1000 Guineas over the same mile in March.
