Irish Oaks next for Katiyra

Juddmonte Oaks third Katiyra will head straight for the Irish equivalent next at the Curragh.

John Oxx´s Peintre Celebre filly was entered for the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh but will bypass both of those races in favour of the classic.

County Kildare handler Oxx explained he didn´t want to push the filly too hard this season, as the Aga Khan´s three-year-old is set to stay in training next campaign.

He said: "She´ll next run in the Irish Oaks. We were thinking about the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Derby meeting but I think we´ll wait now. She´s not a filly we are going to be too hard on this year.

"She has a potential four-year-old career as well so I think we´ll freshen her up now and wait for the classic.

"It´s the most obvious race, especially with Look Here likely to give it a miss. If she isn´t going there is even more reason for us to go."

Katiyra finished third at Epsom, over sixth lengths behind Look Here, and Oxx cited her inexperience as one of the reasons for the defeat.

He continued: "Obviously she is very inexperienced and it was asking a lot for her to handle the track but she just got stopped by a horse falling back and she lost her hind legs going across the path so there were excuses.

"She didn´t come down the hill too well but I think that was more due to interference rather than not handling the track.

"She seemed to be travelling well up to that point but she recovered and we were very happy with her final position."

With Katiyra giving the Ribblesdale a miss Oxx will bring just one runner over to Royal Ascot, Ebadiyan, who is set to take his chance in the Queen´s Vase.

"I have one runner at Ascot, Ebadiyan, who is rated 98 and is in the Queen´s Vase on Friday. He´s a winner and placed twice from three runs.

"It´s his first time over two miles so it´s hard to know how he´ll handle it but most of them are in the same boat.

"He should appreciate the trip and he should like the fast ground. If he steps up on what he´s shown because of the distance and the fast ground he should be competitive."
