Irish boys trail Down-Under Ireland trail Australia by 9 points to 3 following the opening race of this year’s international jump jockey series.The traditional start-off, a high weight invitational flat handicap over 10 furlongs was run at Gawler, South Australia. Here, Gary Hutchinson, still feeling the effects of his Galway Hurdle fall, fared best of the Irish, coming home third on 9/2 chance, Colorando Extreme.Waterford native, Hutchinson expressed the opinion that in hindsight he might have made more use of his mount who was beaten a total of nine lengths.The four man team is completed by Keith Hadnett, Martin Mooney and Mark Grant. Next stop for the quartet is Morphettville on Saturday. Now in it’s seventeenth year, the series still creates quite a bit of interest among the natives.
