Johannesburg Curragh bound

Aidan O`Brien revealed today that unbeaten Kentucky Derby hope Johannesburg is likely to make his seasonal reappearance at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Ballydoyle maestro had been considering sending the Breeders` Cup Juvenile winner across the Irish Sea to Lingfield the previous day for the inaugural Stg#50,000 Fosters-International Trial Stakes on the Polytrack surface.

But improved weather conditions in Ireland mean the Catlemartin/La Louviere Studs Gladness Stakes over seven furlongs is now the aim for the Hennessy colt, who did not meet with defeat in seven starts last season.

O`Brien said: 'The plan is for him to go to the Curragh for the Gladness, and Castle Gandolfo will probably go to Lingfield on Saturday.

'The weather was so bad here that we were afraid that the ground was going to be terrible at the Curragh.

'But the weather has really picked up here in the last few days and the forecast is good for the weekend so we are hoping we get nice ground on Sunday, and also we get to keep him at home. He is in good form.'

Castle Gandolfo won two of his four starts last term and finished runner-up to stable mate High Chaparral in the Group One Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October.
