L'Evangeliste scores with promise of more to come L’Evangeliste confirmed the promise of his second last month at the Listowel Festival when going one better in the Connolly’s RED MILLS EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle at Galway. The five-year-old gelding was adding to wins in a point-to-point and also a bumper at Limerick earlier this year. The well-backed 8/15 favourite gained a significant advantage after two out where nearest challenger Mullaghgloss jumped into the back of the market leader. Sean Flanagan’s mount kept on strongly on the run-in to beat that rival by eight lengths with Fatal Flaw a further four and three-quarter lengths back in third. Winning trainer Eric McNamara said, “He missed the last a small bit but at that stage, had been in front from flagfall. This is a good horse who bumped into a really good one at Listowel the last day. "I think he will eventually make a lovely three-mile chaser, and he wants softer ground and a longer trip than that. "He was bought privately by a group of eight lads (the Preachers Syndicate) and was the dearest horse to have come into my yard in 40 years of training. All eight are here today and they're staying over so it'll be a great night." Quotes by Tom Weekes
