Landing Light Retired

Nicky Henderson´s dual Grade One-winning hurdler Landing Light has been retired.

The 10-year-old son of In The Wings had been suffering from leg problems for a while, revealed the Lambourn trainer.

The versatile gelding, who missed the whole of last season, won a total of nine races on the Flat and over hurdles in his career.

His final success came in the 2003 Cesarewitch at Newmarket when given a vintage ride by Pat Eddery.

'His legs are not as young as they were and I didn´t want to do too much more with him, so we decided that since he owes us nothing, he´d get a fully deserved retirement,' said Henderson.

'He was a wonderful horse and a tremendous servant to the yard. He´ll be missed by all us at Seven Barrows.'

The highlights of Landing Light´s hurdling career included the Tote Gold Trophy at Newbury in February 2001 when he beat subsequent Champion Hurdle victor Rooster Booster and the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton the following December.
