Lingfield and Ayr hit by weather Wet weather has forced the abandonment of Ayr`s National Hunt meeting scheduled for this afternoon, while after only one race, Lingfield was called off due to high winds.Stewards at Ayr made the decision after an early-morning inspection of the Scottish venue.Clerk of the course Chris Kennedy said: 'We`ve abandoned I`m afraid.'We had just under three quarters of an inch of rain overnight and on the back straight parts of the track are waterlogged.'The forecast for this morning is for continuous rain and some really heavy showers and we decided to make the decision now rather than have people travel a long way and have to call it off later.'Lingfield`s Clerk of the course Chris Stickels explained his decision to call an early halt to their meeting. He said: 'Racing has been abandoned because of the strong winds.'After the jockeys rode in the first race they expressed their concern that the gusts incertain areas were blowing the horses about.'We inspected the course and although the wind had died down slightly it was still gusting and it was the gusts blowing up that made it unsafe for racing.'It was reported that winds on the course were getting up to over 40mph.
