Longchamp strike threat suspended

The Easter Sunday card at Longchamp on Sunday, featuring the Prix d`Harcourt, will go ahead after French unions decided to suspend their threat of strike action.

A spokesman for France Galop, the ruling body of French racing, today confirmed that strike action had been temporarily suspended by the unions pending the outcome of further talks on Wednesday.

The move comes too late to save the Saturday card at Saint-Cloud and it is unclear when the Group Three Prix Edmond Blanc will be rescheduled.

The relaxation of the unions` stance will enable English trainer Ray White`s supplemented Zarin (Jimmy Fortune) to take his chance in the Group Two Prix d`Harcourt.

The Doncaster Mile second is one of 11 runners declared for the Harcourt, including Jomana, winner of the Group Three Prix Exbury.

Jomana will be hoping to emulate another Sheikh Mohammed-owned runner, Earlene. The latter completed the Exbury-d`Harcourt double last year.

Francois Doumen`s classy Foundation Spirit also has a leading role to play. He will be plenty fit enough after winning at Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Frankie Dettori will ride the useful Italian raider Sunstrach. The latter was narrowly foiled on his return in Milan, but has a lot more to do here.
