Marlborough sound

Marlborough was sound this morning after an injury scare following his narrow victory in the Tote Gold Trophy at Sandown Park on Friday.

The gelding got the better of Go Ballistic by a short head to land the stg£100,000 contest but his jockey Mick Fitzgerald thought the horse had gone wrong at the second last and that the gelding was lame when he pulled up.

However Barry Simpson, racing manager to Marlborough`s owner Robert Ogden, said: 'He was sound this morning but it is early days yet. We`ll just have to see how he goes on over the next few days.

'He could have knocked himself or trapped a nerve - there are all sorts of possibilities - but he was sound when he walked in.'
