Ladbrokes Takes Half A Million Euro

This Saturday sees the biggest betting event of the racing calendar take centre stage - the Grand National at the famous Aintree racecourse. The 2008 Grand National will once again see millions of euro wagered on the outcome and unusually this year, one horse has emerged as a clear race favourite. Cloudy Lane, trained by Donald McCain, son of Grand National legend Ginger McCain, is priced at Grand National odds of 5/1 to win the Grand National following a massive gamble to the tune of €500,000, according to Ladbrokes. The next closest priced Grand National runners are late movers Slim Pickings and Comply or Die, both priced at 10/1.

Commenting on the Grand National betting bonanza, Adele Thompson, Ladbrokes Ireland said;

"Although Cloudy Lane has emerged as a clear favourite, everyone knows that the Grand National is nothing if not unpredictable. It?s the chance of an upset that makes it the greatest steeplechase of them all and adds to the excitement for punters and racing fans. Having said that it would be a remarkable story for Donald McCain to continue the great tradition set by his father and train the winner on Saturday."

Donald McCain´s father, Ginger, secured four Grand Nationals, winning three times with the legendary Red Rum who he trained on a beach in Southport near Liverpool and then famously in 2004, Amberleigh House romped home to victory under his charge.
