McAteer 1,2 in Fairyhouse Opener There were a number of horses well-fancied for the opening www.betchronicle.com Better Odds Handicap but it was Liam McAteer who stole the show, saddling three runners and ending up responsible for the first two home. Betty Burke with Michael Hussey up, led inside the final furlong, going away to decisively beat her stable companion, 25/1 shot, Fungible. The victorious 12/1 chance, a daughter of Choisir, is owned by Pat Monahan, a regular visitor to the winner´s enclosure with National Hunt horses in the past. McAteer suggested afterwards, "I´m getting a bit like Michael Dickinson! I´m delighted for Pat Monahan, he is a gentleman, he never complains when things aren´t going well. Pat´s Father, also Pat, owned Drumgora (Champion Chase hero of 1981). Betty Burke has a nice pedigree and we´ll look for something similar for her, she might go to Bellewstown next week if the ground is good."
