McCoy closing in on record

Tony McCoy chalked up his 250th winner of the season when partnering Going Global to an easy victory at rain-soaked Plumpton this afternoon.

The five-year-old, trained by Gary Moore, gave McCoy one his easiest winners of the winter.

The evens favourite ploughed through the mud in tremendous style to take the Super Sunracing Novices` Hurdle by a distance from Engstrum with Apple Joe 30 lengths further back in third.

The six-times champion jump jockey is now just 19 short of Flat racing legend Sir Gordon Richards` all-time record of 269 winners set in 1947.

McCoy is only three short of his personal best of 253 winners he set in the 1997-98 campaign _ the only other time he has amassed 250.

However Martin Pipe, to whom McCoy is stable jockey, is still stuck on 199 winners for the season after drawing a blank at Plumpton from four runners.

His last success over jumps was with Jaybejay at Wincanton on Thursday.
