McCoy edges closer

Tony McCoy edged a shade closer to equalling Sir Gordon Richards` record of 269 winners in a season after Polar Champ`s victory at Newton Abbot - but he drew a blank on the rest of the card.

The champion jockey has endured a rather lean spell recently and had netted only two winners in the past 14 days until Polar Champ came to his rescue with a facile success over Norski Lad in the Devon Caravans Claiming Hurdle.

And McCoy said: 'I am very likely to be at Chepstow on Bank Holiday Monday as I could well have a full book of rides there and hopefully some good chances among them.

'I`m not really doing that well at this record chasing stuff right at the moment but to be fair there hasn`t been that much racing.

'Anyway it`s fingers crossed to get a few more at Chepstow on Monday.'
