McCoy fails in Plumpton bid

Tony McCoy failed to reach another notable milestone at Plumpton today - beating Josh Gifford`s all-time record of 68 winners at the course.

He is just one short of the total at the moment so a double at the track would have seen him add another chapter to his list of achievements.

But he drew a blank at the course, meaning the record is safe for the time being.

It was at Plumpton on September 17th that McCoy rode the fastest 100 winners in a season by scoring on 1-4 shot Present Bleu for Martin Pipe - the first leg of a double completed by 2-11 chance Turkestan.

Gifford showed that he is still a formidable force at Plumpton by training Rosco to win the Tote Exacta Handicap Hurdle in the hands of Leighton Aspell.

Madame Jones, who galloped her way into the record books when landing her tenth handicap of the season at Nottingham last month, failed in her latest bid to continue her winning ways today.

The six-year-old lined-up the 5-2 favourite in the second division of the one-mile Grizzly Adams Apprentice Handicap at Southwell in search of her 11th handicap success of the season.

But she finished out of the frame after racing prominently for much of the way but fading in the closing stages.

The race was won by 10-1 shot Gingko ahead of Bold State at 10-1, Yenaled at 6-1 and Artifact at 20-1.
