Meehan keen on Autumnal

Lambourn trainer Brian Meehan is expecting a bold show from Autumnal in the Sagitta 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.

The daughter of Indian Ridge, who acquitted herself well in top company as a juvenile, has recovered from the injury which she suffered when finishing eighth in the Nell Gwyn Stakes on her reappearance.

'She got struck into in the Nell Gwyn but the cut has healed up. She is in great form now and she lines up on Sunday,' Meehan said today.

'The ground will be fine for her and she has an outstanding chance in a very open Guineas.'

Autumnal is one of the outsiders for the fillies` Classic and is a general 50-1 chance.

In the Sagitta 2000 Guineas Dane O`Neill has been booked to ride Richard Hannon`s Craven Stakes winner King`s Ironbridge, a best-priced 16-1 with William Hill.

Meehan`s stable stalwart Tumbleweed Ridge is due to return to action on Friday.

'He`s in at Haydock on Saturday and Newmarket on Friday and I should think he`ll run at Newmarket. He`s in top order and either Michael Tebbutt or Brett Doyle will ride,' Meehan said.

There are no immediate plans to retire the eight-year-old entire, the winner of nine races including the Group Three Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown three years running, to stud.

'We are always open to offers but he keeps winning his races,' Meehan added.
