Mighty Moore Hammers The Bookies Britain's bookmakers were spared a £50-million bashing after Ryan Moore failed to win on his fifth and final ride on day four of Glorious Goodwood. The champion jockey had partnered a 1,979-1 four-timer from his previous mounts before Politeia was unplaced late in the day, saving the layers, who claimed to have already paid out over £10 million on him.William Hill spokesman Ben Clarke said: 'Ryan Moore is one of the most popular jockeys and memories of Dettori day (Magnificent Seven of 1996) were fresh in the mind prior to his final ride.'Fortunately he failed to sparkle so we were able to breathe a huge sigh of relief.'Moore's day was highlighted by Allegretto's victory in the feature ABN Amro Goodwood Cup.Sir Michael Stoute's filly swept from the rear of the field to land the prestigious staying race for owners Cheveley Park Stud at odds of 8-1.Allegretto's win was her third Group Two success and she added to her Henry II Stakes victory in May by seeing off Veracity by half a length, with the 6-4 favourite Geordieland weakening to sixth.Moore said: 'She isn't really a difficult ride anymore. She was last year as he was lazy, but we put the visor on at Sandown and it woke her up and she started to race better.'Cheveley Park said they were considering retiring her, but may now have a rethink.St Leger sponsors Ladbrokes trimmed Veracity into 16-1 from 25s after Michael Jarvis said the Doncaster Classic was the plan.Moore gave a no-holds-barred effort on Stoute's Hi Calypso (3-1 joint-favourite) in the Lillie Langtry Fillies' Stakes as she eventually got past Wannabe Posh to score by half a length.Moore then out-thought his rivals in the Audi Stakes on Moorhouse Lad (10-1) as he stuck to the far side with the remainder migrating to the stands rail, and Bryan Smart's runner powered away by two lengths.'I've only had him since January, but Ryan said he's one of the fastest he's ridden,' said Smart from his Thirsk base.'We just wanted to win a Group race this season and he's done that ? he's not in the Nunthorpe Stakes. I can't wait for next year with him.'Docofthebay (4-1) has been questioned about his attitude in the past but Moore threw the proverbial kitchen sink at him to take the De Boer Stakes, providing compensation for Geordieland's trainer Jamie Osborne. The Alphameric Vase also went Cheveley Park's way as 11-2 favourite Pipe Dreamer picked up well for Martin Dwyer to lead in the final 50 yards.Ralph Beckett reckoned Celtic Slipper had been just his second ever Goodwood victory after she caused a 33-1 shock in the EBF New Ham Maiden Fillies' Stakes, while Dandy Nicholls claimed his sixth Audi Q7 Cup Stakes in a decade with the veteran Continent (18-1).
