Misery For Gannon

Cathy Gannon faces several weeks on the sidelines after dislocating her shoulder in a nasty fall at Newbury on Tuesday night.

The former champion Irish apprentice sustained the injury when she was unshipped from Edge Of Gold shortly after crossing the winning line.

The combination had finished first past the post in the six-furlong maiden for two-year-old fillies at the Berkshire track but were placed second following a stewards´ inquiry.

'She´s quite well, but she´s a bit down as she can´t go out riding,' said Edge Of Gold´s trainer Bryn Palling.

'We brought her home from Swindon where she had her X-rays and we had to take her to our local hospital in Glamorgan.

'They strapped her up and said the specialist would like to see her on Friday morning.

'I´m afraid she´s going to be out for a few weeks. We will miss her as she´s riding very well. She´s as good as most lads.'

Gannon had recently decided to move south in search of more rides after she left her native Ireland last year to join Malton trainer Kevin Ryan.

'She´s spending a lot of time with us. She hasn´t moved down from the north yet, but she´s going to move halfway between us and Kevin Ryan,' added Palling.

'It´s a pity what´s happened as she was doing well and was getting a lot of rides.'

Gannon has already missed out as her sole ride at Salisbury today, the Palling-trained Edge Of Light, won at 25-1 in the hands of Steve Drowne.
