Mr Dinos takes Ascot Gold Cup

Champion jockey Kieren Fallon steered Mr Dinos to a comfortable Gold Cup victory at Royal Ascot this afternoon.

The 3-1 shot romped home in the Group One contest, six lengths clear of veteran Persian Punch (20-1) in the 12-strong field. Pat Eddery took third aboard Pole Star (12-1).

Heavily backed favourite Mamool (5-2), the mount of Frankie Dettori, never troubled the leaders and trailed home in fifth.

The Gold Cup, a supreme test for stayers, is run over 2-1/2 miles and is the highlight of the third day of the five-day Royal meeting.
