Murphy case sent to Crown Court

The case against Timmy Murphy, who was charged with indecently assaulting an air stewardess on a flight, is being sent to Crown Court after he appeared before magistrates in London today.

Murphy, 27, who won the 2001 Irish Grand National on Davids Lad and enjoyed his best season last term with 98 winners, allegedly fondled the woman in first class while drunk during a Virgin flight from Japan to London Heathrow on April 14th.

The Co Kildare-born jockey, who now resides at Tucker`s Road, Faringdon, Oxfordshire, spoke only to confirm his name, age, and address at Uxbridge Magistrates` Court.

Robin Leach, defending, said Murphy would not enter a plea today.

Chair of the bench Marion Quinn renewed the jockey`s bail, which is conditional on the surrender of his passport.

She told him to return to the court on June 13th for a committal hearing to send the case to a Crown Court.
