Murtagh confirmed for Papa

Johnny Murtagh will take the mount on Irish challenger Barba Papa in the Tote Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday.

The booking for the Tony Martin-trained runner was confirmed by the stable today.

A spokeswoman said the yard was pleased to have secured the services of Murtagh for the Stg£120,000 handicap over a marathon two and a quarter miles.

'The horse is fine, he`s in good form,' she added.

Barba Papa has been supported in to 8-1 from 10-1 with the sponsors as well as to 8-1 from 12-1 with William Hill.

The seven-year-old was third behind the Martin Pipe-trained Heros Fatal in the Cesarewitch on his final start of last season.

Murtagh rode him when he finished 18th of 29 in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting in June.

Barba Papa has run only once since then, landing a hurdle race at Punchestown at the end of last month.
