Murtagh short price for Ascot honour

Johnny Murtagh has been installed as the even-money favourite with totesport to be top jockey at Royal Ascot.

Murtagh, stable jockey to Aidan O?Brien, has the likes of dual 2000 Guineas winner Henrythenavigator and Gold Cup hat-trick seeking Yeats to look forward to throughout the week and he is some way clear of 9-4 next best Ryan Moore.

O´Brien is also an odds-on chance to be crowned top trainer with the same firm going 4-7 about the Ballydoyle team claiming top honours.

Spokesman Damian Walker said: "Murtagh has a terrific book of rides throughout the five days, including red-hot favourites such as Henrythenavigator, Yeats and Duke Of Marmalade.

"His boss Aidan O´Brien will also be strongly represented in the juvenile races, so it will probably have been a disappointing week for the Ballydoyle team if Murtagh can´t land the top jockey award."
