Naheef in Classic picture

Naheef saw his odds for this season`s Classics dramatically slashed after he annihilated his rivals in the Godolphin trials at Nad Al Sheba today.

The three-year-old was six lengths clear of his nearest rival Samhari after a mile race on the turf at the Dubai track.

Meshaheer, a leading fancy for the Sagitta 2000 Guineas, trailed in a distant fifth behind the Frankie Dettori-partnered son of Marju, while fellow Classic hope Waldenburg was a further distance back in eight place.

William Hill have responded to the result by removing the pair from the betting for the Classic, while Coral have Meshaheer as a 20-1 chance.

Naheef took the Champagne Lanson Vintage Stakes at Goodwood last season before finishing second to current Guineas favourite Hawk Wing.

Simon Crisford, the Godolphin Racing Manager, revealed that plans for the colts have yet to be finalised but says there are lots of possible targets.

'We are very pleased with Naheef. He travelled well through the trial and stayed on strongly,' he told the official Godolphin website.

'He looks like a horse with a real future this year. He can either start off in the Sagitta 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket or the Dante at York.

'We will wait for Sheikh Maktoum`s decision on that _ he bred Naheef. His form from last year was very strong. It was a good honest trial. Naheef is clearly a proper horse and he has a very bright future ahead of him.'

'The two disappointments were Meshaheer and Waldenburg. Meshaheer didn`t really get home for whatever reason and that was a disappointing effort on his part because he had been shaping up really nicely on the sand.

'Waldenburg was never really travelling. I think you can put a line through both of their performances because they didn`t run as well as they can do. We know they are much better than that.

'However, this does put a question mark against their early-season targets. We will have to wait and see how they do over the next month before making plans for them.'

In response Coral have shortened Naheef up to 8-1 from 20-1 for the 200 Guineas and to 12-1 from 25s for the blue riband event at Epsom.

Hawk Wing is now a 6-4 favourite from 2-1 for the Guineas after Naheef`s boost to his form.

Imtiyaz is now a 20-1 chance for the 2000 Guineas after finishing four and a quarter lengths in front of On Edge the arguably easier colts` trial.

Silent Honor is another to be shortened up after a head win in the one-mile fillies trial race.

The Dettori-ridden filly just got the better of Kazzia and is now 10-1 from 14-1 with Coral for the Sagitta 1000 Guineas.

Crisford was pleased with the performance of the pair but says no decisions have been made yet about where they will run next.

He added: 'We were delighted with Silent Honor because she settled well and was nice and relaxed. She travelled very sweetly and came there cantering. She then just got a bit tired and she will improve a lot on that run.

'Silent Honor isin the Sagitta 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and she will be in the French Guineas. We will have a talk about her target closer to the time and see how she is doing.

'Kazzia had good form in Italy last year and she is a nice type of filly. Ideally, she will want a mile and a quarter plus on soft ground.'
