Nat's The Way To Do It

Natagora made just about all the running to land the Skybet.com Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket for Pascal Bary and Christophe Lemaire.

Having bounced out of the gates in front, Lemaire was always sitting confidently aboard the 7-2 winner, who showed a smart turn of foot when set alight just before the distance.

Fleeting Spirit (also 7-2) emerged from the pack to give chase but Natagora was always just doing enough as the front two pulled a long way clear of 33-1 chance Festoso.

Natagora's dominant display saw the daughter of Divine Light cut to 12-1 from 25s for next season's 1000 Guineas back at Newmarket.

Having led the field at a fair rate of knots through the early stages, Bary's charge was still travelling powerfully when Lemaire pushed the button as the field approached the Dip.

Frankie Dettori gained a similarly-impressive response from Fleeting Spirit at this point, but the Jeremy Noseda-trained filly could never quite get to grips with Natagora, who held on for a cosy neck success.

Festoso stayed on well in the latter stages for Eddie Ahern, another four lengths back.

Bary, celebrating his first winner in Britain, said: 'I've been a long time waiting for that. I'm very pleased to finally win a race in England ? I've been trying for 25 years.

'She won't run again this year but hopefully she will come back for the Guineas. We had to run from the front, she has so much speed. I hope she gets a mile next year.'

Lemaire is not so sure, however.

He told Channel 4 Racing: 'I think it will be difficult for her to stay a mile as she has lots of natural speed and if you fight against her she won't do the mile.'

Noseda said of Fleeting Spirit: 'It was a very good run and vindicated our decision to come here.

'She's been beaten by a very good filly and they've pulled four lengths clear. It's disappointing to get beat but she's run a huge race.

'She's in the December Sales and we'll just have to decide where we go from here.'

Harry Dunlop was delighted with Festoso's effort.

He said: 'That was my first runner in a Group One and she's run a blinder.

'To finish third to those horses is unbelievable and I'm over the moon.

'We'll head for a trial at the start of next season and then go for the Guineas as she's earned it.'
