National Options For Desperandum

Frances Crowley will decide in the next couple of days whether Nil Desperandum lines up for Monday´s Powers Gold Label Irish Grand National or waits for the Aintree version.

The eight-year-old is set to carry 10st 8lb in the John Smith´s Grand National, which is a fact that has been noted by his trainer, given that the weights are not out for Fairyhouse yet and he has been penalised by the handicapper for a win at Down Royal last week.

It was Nil Desperandum´s first victory since his promising novice campaign last season and he looked to be back to something like his best with a facile defeat of Kadoun.

'We haven´t made a decision where he runs just yet,' said Mrs Crowley today.

'He has a nicer weight in the English National, and it gives us more time to get him ready, but I will speak to his owner first and decide in the next couple of days.

'He is very well and it was nice to see him win - mind you, the handicapper seems to have taken note of it. But we really needed to see him return to form before we could go any further.'
