Nayyir Bows Out

Nayyir, a nine-time winner for trainer Gerard Butler, has been retired.

The popular nine-year-old raced 37 times during a career spanning six years, winning two Lennox Stakes at Goodwood and amassing a total of £570,612 in prize money.

Nayyir bows out with a total of five Pattern-race victories to his credit but a Group One triumph proved elusive with the Indian Ridge gelding being placed three times at the highest level.

'Unfortunately, we have retired Nayyir and it is the end of a great career,' said Butler.

'It really choked me when I told the owners what I thought they should do. We've done it before something went wrong, he just doesn't seem to be enjoying it as much anymore.'
