New Stand opened at Cork The new Pavilion Stand was officially opened at Cork Racecourse Mallow today (Sunday 2nd Nov 2008) on Paddypower.com Cork National Day. The facility was opened by Batt O'Keeffe, Minister for Education who was joined by Cork Chairman Joe Walsh and Brian Kavanagh, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland. The new two-story facility has capacity to cater for 700 people and includes a public bar, a restaurant (with 200 pax capacity seated on upper level), fast food outlet and coffee bar with a seating area. It offers spectacular viewing of the entire racecourse from both the grandstand section and the upstairs corporate restaurant. The new pavilion also includes Tote outlets (on both floors) and Paddy Power have an on-course betting shop with multiple screens on the ground floor. The development started 40 weeks ago in February 2008 with Hamilton Architects, Walls Construction, Arup Engineering and John J Casey Project Managers and has been completed on time and within budget.
