New race confirmed at Lingfield

Lingfield have confirmed their plans for a new Kentucky Derby Trial at the track on April 6th.

The race will be run over one mile on the all-weather track on Grand National day and officials at the course are hoping to attract Aidan O`Brien`s Kentucky Derby hopeful Johannesburg.

The Stg#50,000 race is open to all three-year-olds, with colts and geldings carrying 8st 11lb and fillies 8st 6lb. There will be a 3lb penalty for Group One winners.

The contest is set to be sponsored by Foster`s and Arena Leisure`s director of racing Ian Renton is thrilled the race has got the go-ahead.

He said: 'This is tremendous news and we are delighted that the Race Planning Department has agreed with our proposals.

'Furthermore we are thrilled to announce that we have secured the backing of a major international brand name in Foster`s who have agreed to sponsor the race.

'This promises to be a great occasion and is designed as a prep race for this season`s Run for the Roses, the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in May.'
