O`Brien team to miss Newbury

Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O`Brien today revealed he would be giving Friday`s important Newbury meeting a miss.

He said he would not be having any runners at all at the Berkshire venue, despite having entries in two of the principal races.

O`Brien`s entries in the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, a #50,000 Group Two event over six furlongs, included Rock of Gibraltar, who was a beaten favourite when going under to Dubai Destination in the Rothmans Royals Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last Friday.

His other entries in the two-year-old race were Landseer, Della Francesca, Toreador, Wiseman`s Ferry and Silken Sash.

His entries in the #15,000-added Haynes, Hanson And Clark Conditions Stakes, for juveniles over a mile, included last year`s most expensive yearling purchase Tasmanian Tiger, who is by Storm Cat, and cost 6.8m.

Other entries included Black Sam Bellamy, who is a full brother to dual Derby winner Galileo, and Sorcerous, who cost two million guineas at the Houghton Sales a year ago.

O`Brien also had previous winner Mutinyonthebounty, High Chaparral and Kasparov as possibles.

O`Brien`s entries in the EBF Dubai City Of Gold Maiden Stakes over six furlongs were Century City, an IR#2m purchase at the Goffs Orby Sale, and Temple Of Artemis.

Meanwhile, O`Brien confirmed that Rothmans Royals St Leger winner Milan was in fine fettle for the Arc at Longchamp following his impressive Doncaster victory.

'He`s fine,' said the trainer.

And he also had news of Galileo, who was beaten by Godolphin star Fantastic Light in a titantic race for the Ireland The Food Island Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

The horse looks set to bypass the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in favour of the Breeders` Cup Classic, where he could take on Fantastic Light again.

'The plan is the same as after Leopardstown. We`ll see what happens but it`s so far, so good,' said O`Brien.
