Osborne fears Septimus in Gold Cup

Jamie Osborne says Aidan O´Brien could hold the key to Geordieland´s Ascot Gold Cup hopes.

Osborne´s charge goes into the Group One contest next Thursday in great shape after that thrilling Yorkshire Cup victory on the Knavesmire last month.

But he knows that the biggest challenge next week will come from O´Brien´s all-powerful Ballydoyle stable - and it might not be hat-trick seeking superstar Yeats.

Osborne told the Racing Post: I think we´ve got the handle on Yeats. We know what he is and I think he´s beatable. Ours was only just behind him last year and could be even better this year, so I´d be a layer of Yeats all day at 6-4.

"I think Aidan (O´Brien) holds the key. I´d rather see Yeats there than Septimus, who looked awesome when he beat us five lengths in the Doncaster Cup. Then you add in Coastal Path, who looks a high-class horse. I don´t know, we might not be good enough to beat those two.

"So if I could write the script, Coastal Path would go away, Ballydoyle would go all out to win it a third time with Yeats, and it would all come down to a scrap between him and us.

"That would be fantastic and I´d go there thinking we could win it."
