Oxx Getting In The Swing

John Oxx is hoping the luckless Arch Swing can finally get back on the winning track in the Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes at Leopardstown tomorrow.

Since winning her first three races she has not run with much fortune, including when badly drawn against Finsceal Beo in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

In the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket she was denied a run at crucial stages, but she did finish in front of one of her main rivals tomorrow, last year's winner Red Evie, in the latter event.

'She hasn't been that lucky despite running well. She could have done a bit better in a couple of them and her last three races had a hard-luck story each time,' said Oxx.

'Also, before the Guineas at Newmarket she had an interrupted preparation, so things haven't quite gone her way since winning at Leopardstown in April.

'Red Evie's trainer (Michael Bell) has been quoted as saying she doesn't like Newmarket, so that might explain her run in the Falmouth, and she's come back to win at Newbury since, so she's obviously a big danger having won around Leopardstown before.

'Arch Swing had a little break after Newmarket and has been ticking along nicely since,' he told the Racing Post.

Arch Swing will also have the ground in her favour tomorrow after the unseasonably wet summer.

'It's a relief after all the testing ground we've had over the last few months and, while Arch Swing handles the softer ground, she is definitely better on this quicker ground,' said Oxx.
