Paddy Bids For Famous Double

Carl Llewellyn is hoping Run For Paddy can become the first horse in over 20 years to win successive Coral Scottish Grand Nationals at Ayr.

Jimmy Fitzgerald's Androma was the last horse to register back-to-back wins after taking the race in 1984 and ?85.

While the statistics are against him, Llewellyn believes Run For Paddy has sound prospects of following up last year's short-head victory over Ladalko, despite not showing much in four starts this term.

'He's fine but obviously he hasn't had his ground since last year. He has been running on soft all winter, but I am very happy with him,' said Llewellyn.

'He's got a nice weight so we are going there hopeful.

'We were banking on the ground being good as his whole campaign has been built around going back for another crack and it looks like he should have his conditions.

'I think he is 1lb below the mark he won off last year so it has worked out well and it could be more competitive.

'There are a few left in who would be doubtful because of the ground so it could cut up.

'I've a lot to thank him for with him being my first winner as a trainer and it would be great if he could do it again.'
