Petrushka on comeback trail

Petrushka took another step towards returning to the track from injury in the Vodafone Coronation Cup with a pleasing piece of work at Newmarket.

The four-year-old, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, has been sidelined since she sustained a small chip on a off-hind fetlock when being prepared for the Dubai World Cup in March.

However, she is now back in full work and could reappear in the Group One contest over the Vodafone Derby course and distance at Epsom on June 8th.

'She did an easy piece of work with Adilabad yesterday. No serious questions were asked but it was a nice piece of work. She looked in great form and went well,' said Tim Jones, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing.

'The Coronation Cup is the race that she`s being prepared towards and Michael will be naturally stepping up her work over the next couple of weeks and hopefully she`ll be ready in time.

'Hopefully, Kieren (Fallon) will ride but until we get there things like that are very muchon the back boiler.'

Petrushka proved herself the leading middle-distance three-year-old filly in Britain and Ireland last year, winning three Group One races - the Kildangan Irish Oaks, the Yorkshire Oaks and the Prix de l`Opera Hotel du Lac Barriere at Longchamp.

She wound up the campaign by finishing fifth to Perfect Sting in the Breeders` Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Churchill Downs in November.
