Piggott On The Mend Lester Piggott could be discharged from hospital shortly following the recurrence of a heart problem while he was in Switzerland last month.The 11-times champion rider, 71, is undergoing tests in this country after spending time in an intensive care unit at a hospital in Lausanne.'I saw him yesterday and he looked pretty good, thank goodness, and hopefully he'll be home shortly,' said his son-in-law, trainer William Haggas.'He's in hospital and they are just doing a few tests. He's fine. I think his return home will be imminent.'I don't know the details of it but it is generally known that he had a few problems with his heart at Christmas and we've all just had a concern about it,' Haggas told BBC Sport.He was first admitted to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds after feeling unwell on Christmas Eve on his return from a trip to Hong Kong. He was released five days later.Piggott retired in 1994 after 4,493 career wins, including nine Derby victories, his first coming in 1954 on Never Say Die.A special raceday in his honour at Newmarket was postponed and may be rescheduled for September.(C) PA Sport
