Pipe breaks 100 barrier

Martin Pipe broke his own record for the fastest 100 winners in a season by a jumps trainer at Ascot today.

He reached the landmark when Turkestan (4-1) took the opening United House Development Novices` Hurdle under Tony McCoy, leading at the second last flight to beat Rainbows Aglitter (7-2) by six lengths.

The 3-1 favourite Ibis Rochelais was six lengths further away third.

Pipe has reached three figures 14 days quicker than his previous best, achieved on November 17 of last season.

The Wellington phenomenon has rewritten the record books in the past decade and a half. Among the numerous record he now holds are the most winners in a season and a career plus the fastest 50, 100 and 200 winners in a season.
