Pitman eyes Aintree for Blessed

Mark Pitman is considering a tilt at the Martell Grand National with Ever Blessed.

The 10-year-old made his first appearance since injuring his off-fore knee in the 2000 Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup when running in the Great Yorkshire Chase at Doncaster.

Ever Blessed, winner of the 1999 Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, was pulled up three fences from home on Town Moor but Pitman has pronounced himself happy with the horse`s reappearance.

He told the Racing Channel: 'He does handle soft ground but the first time out with 12st. Moor Lane looked to be the good thing on the book and won like a good thing.

'I was very happy with Ever Blessed for the first half of the race. He travelled really well and jumped great but then he made a mistake and sort of lost his rhythm a bit and it all fell apart.

'He`s come out of the race not too bad actually, I`ve seen him come out of races a lot worse.'

Pitman also revealed Ever Blessed will not be having another crack at the Cheltenham Gold Cup but may be considered for Aintree.

He added: 'We always said we wouldn`t go back to Cheltenham as that`s were he picked up his problem last time in the Gold Cup and I want to try to keep him to flat courses.

'He`s in the National so that may be a possibility.'
