Prendergast Ace Is Champion-Bound

Mustameet registered his first Group Two success in style in the United Arab Emirates Racing And Equestrian Federation Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh.

Already a three-times course winner, Kevin Prendergast's five-year-old was not hard pressed to complete a four-timer.

After Heliostatic and Chelsea Rose had made the running, Declan McDonagh brought Mustameet (3-1) with a telling run on the outside.

Leading a furlong out, he coasted home by three lengths from Chelsea Rose, the 7-4 favourite, to earn a 14-1 quote from William Hill for the Baileys Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown next month.

Prendergast said: 'He was at the end of his tether last time he ran over this trip at Leopardstown.

'He just likes the ground the way it is. He loves fast ground and he's a light-framed horse.

'He'll now go for the Irish Champion Stakes. We might as well give it a try.'
