Pugin decision on Thursday

Trainer John Oxx will make a final decision on Thursday over whether to run Pugin in the St Leger - or switch him to the Irish equivalent.

The colt will be partnered by Johnny Murtagh if he appears in the Rothmans Royals St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday.

He was among 12 confirmations yesterday for the final Classic on Town Moor but he is also still in the Jefferson Smurfit Memorial Irish St Leger, being run at the Curragh on the same day for the first time.

A spokeswoman for Oxx said today: 'There won`t be any decision until Thursday morning. A final decision will be made then.

'The ground will be one of the factors and Mr Oxx will discuss the matter with the owner (Lady Clague). It`s 50-50 which one he goes for but he will run in one or the other.

'The horse is fine and we will be looking to run a good race. Don`t we always? That`s the name of the game.'

The colt won a maiden race at Navan in April and a Listed race at the Curragh in May.

He was fourth to Galileo in the Budweiser Irish Derby and second behind Vinnie Roe - another St Leger confirmation - in a Listed race, also at the Curragh.

Meanwhile, fellow Curragh trainer Dermot Weld has still not decided whether to run Vinnie Roe at Doncaster.

'I have made no decision yet,' he said today.

Irish contenders made up six of the dozen confirmations yesterday.

Aidan O`Brien still has Mediterranean, Milan, Saddler`s Creek and Life Match in the race but a decision is not expected until at least tomorrow on which of the quartet will represent the Ballydoyle maestro.

Mediterranean won the Tote Ebor at York by half a length from Foreign Affairs and Milan took the Great Voltigeur Stakes at the same meeting.

Saddler`s Creek won a maiden at Wexford in July but was well beaten behind Sir Michael Stoute`s Alexius in the Peugeot Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and in the Great Voltigeur.
