Racing at Perth goes ahead

Racing at Perth today is set to beat the threat of water-logging.

Action on the second day of the course`s three-day spring meeting was given the all-clear after an inspection this morning.

'We go ahead,' said clerk of the course Sam Morshead.

'We only had 1mm of rain overnight and we will manage with that. The going is heavy.'

It is good news for jockey Peter Niven, who needs just one winner to reach a career total of 1,000 in Britain and is due to ride hot favourite Terdad in the opening race.
