Regal Earns Deserved Rest

Regal Heights, fourth in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse last week, has been roughed off for the season.

Donald McCain's six-year-old has improved out of all recognition this term, but found things happening all too quickly on good ground in Ireland.

He does have an entry at the Punchestown Festival, but McCain is keen not to overface him this year.

'He hated the ground, he never went a yard on it and I think it's to his credit that he stuck with them,' said McCain.

'He didn't jump as well as he can which meant he wasn't travelling, so to finish fourth in a Grade One was a great effort. He's not going to run again this season.

'He's only young and he will be a serious horse.'

McCain revealed Irish National casualty Cloudy Lane was also finished the season.

'He is very well, but I don't think he will be running again this season,' he said.

'He is only young and he has had some hard races and he is only going to improve for another summer on his back.'
