Repent out of Kentucky Derby Leading Kentucky Derby fancy Repent, runner-up to Johannesburg in the Breeders` Cup Juvenile last year, has been ruled out of the Churchill Downs contest after a chipped bone was discovered in his ankle. The small chip was detected in an X-ray of the colt`s left front ankle, an injury that trainer Kenny McPeek believes occurred during the running of the Illinois Derby, in which he also finished runner-up.Repent is scheduled to undergo surgery for the removal of the chip.'It`s very small, it`s minor,' said McPeek. 'But in the long-term best interest of the horse it`s better to get it out.'It should heal a 100 per cent, so the horse`s racing future is without question still there. That`s the good thing about it. But in the short run it`s not prudent to keep on going with him.'McPeek still holds a strong hand for 128th running of the `Run for the roses` as he is responsible for favourite Harlan`s Holiday, who is due to run next in the Toyota Blue Grass at Keeneland on Saturday.Repent had been a 12-1 chance with William Hill.
