Rio Grand

Godolphin's Rio De La Plata will face six rivals when he goes for gold in the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday.

The son of Rahy made a big impression routing 18 rivals by five lengths and more at Newmarket last time, leaving connections in positive mood ahead of this tougher assignment.

Godolphin representative Diana Cooper told Racing UK: 'It is one of the pleasures of training two-year-olds ? they do come on and learn with every experience they have.

'He learned a lot from his first race and put it to good use.

'He really pleased us and is an out-and-out professional. We are very much hoping he does the job on Wednesday.

'There's no reason why he shouldn't be a very nice three-year-old as well as hopefully a very nice two-year-old.'

Rio De La Plata will be opposed in the seven-furlong Group Two prize by Aidan O'Brien's Lizard Island, Andrew Balding's Donegal and the Marcus Tregoning-trained Il Warrd.

That trio were all successful last time out along with Scintillo, who got off the mark at the third attempt of asking at Sandown.

Ellmau and Aaim To Storm complete the seven-strong line-up.
