The Philip Rothwell-trained Siberian Star powered clear in the closing stages to run out a wide margin winner of the opening Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase at Leopardstown.

Paddy O'Hanlon produced his mount to lead before the final fence in the two-mile-five contest and he soon asserted.

The Sulamani gelding jumped the last well and went clear on the run-in to post an 11-length winning margin over Millen To One

Siberian Star had been placed on his previous two outings. He was opening his account over fences and recording a second career success.

“He was very good, Philip just said to take my time on him and luckily they've gone a good gallop in front,” said O'Hanlon.

“I was a bit worried about the ground but it was grand in fairness to him. He just kept creeping away and finished out well at the line.

“Philip was hopeful after the last day, once the ground hadn't gone against him he felt he should run a big race. It hasn't been a great week but it's nice to get one on the board.”
