Rumpold states his case

The unbeaten Rumpold stamped himself as one of Godolphin`s leading 2000 Guineas contenders after getting home by a neck under Frankie Dettori in the Dubai organisation`s Classic trials at Nad Al Sheba today.

The son of Mister Baileys, formerly trained by Paul Cole, got the better of Devine Task over eight furlongs on the turf track.

Dewhurst winner Tobougg was a further half-length away in third with the highly-rated West Order back in fifth place.

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford told the official Godolphin website: 'The first three home are very nice horses. Tobougg would have liked a stronger pace and is still on target for the 2000 Guineas.

'Rumpold could go to the Guineas but we are not making firm plans at the moment. West Order would also have liked a stronger pace and to have been up with the leaders.'

Coral reacted by slashing the price of Rumpold to 10-1 (from 16-1) for the Newmarket Classic on May 5. Tobougg is a 9-2 chance with the Barking firm.

Wareed, who won on his only outing as a juvenile in France when in the care of David Loder, took the other colts` trial when he short-headed Musha Merr under John Carroll.

The pair finished ten lengths clear of the remainder in a time two seconds faster than the first trial.

'Wareed and Musha Merr are nice Sadler`s Wells horses to look forward to when we get them over a longer trip in Europe,' Crisford said.

Tempting Fate, who won twice for John Hills as a two-year-old, came out victorious in the fillies` trial as she beat Najah by three and a quarter lengths under Michael Hills.

The Persian Bold filly was stepping up on her first effort in Dubai when she finished third behind Muwakleh, who did not run in the trials but has been confirmed an intended runner in the 1000 Guineas.

Crisford said: 'We will take a view later on where she is going to run. She could join Muwakleh in the 1000 Guineas.'

Coral have cut Tempting Fate to 16-1 (from 25-1), while Muwakleh is down to 7-1 (from 12-1).
