SWEEP SET FOR CHELTENHAM Castle Sweep was today declared on course to bid for a 'home win' in next month`s £80,000 Thomas Pink Gold Cup at Cheltenham. The nine-year-old is owned by Lord Vestey, the chairman of Cheltenham racecourse since 1990.And his trainer Alan King reported: 'Castle Sweep has come back from his summer break in good form. It`s the intention to run him in the Thomas Pink Gold Cup.'He could possibly have a prep race somewhere beforehand, if he can get his favoured soft ground. Otherwise, he would go straight to Cheltenham.'Castle Sweep won two novice chases at Cheltenham last season but has not raced since he was well beaten when favourite for the Cathcart Chase in March.Stable-companion Spendid is set to bid for the new £50,000 Intervet Trophy, a handicap chase over 27{ furlongs, on the same card.'Spendid is another who has done well over the summer,' King said. 'If all goes well, I`m hoping he will be ready to run at the end of this month, either at Ascot or at Wetherby. He will then go on to the Intervet Trophy.'If successful in the Intervet Trophy, he could qualify for a £25,000 bonus by following up in Newbury`s Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup - in which he finished second last year. - PA
