Settigano gives Fitzgerald first Curragh success

Trainer Michael Fitzgerald was celebrating his first winner at the Curragh after Settigano claimed the opening Ladbrokes.com Handicap.

The Sadler´s Wells gelding was to the fore throughout in the mile contest before hitting the front inside the final furlong.

He responded well to Seamus Heffernan´s urgings to hold off the late surge of English raider Zero Tolerance.

"The juice in the ground helped and it was a super rider from Seamie. Everything went right," said the Gowran handler.

"He´ll probably step up to Listed class now. We´ll give him and break and freshen him up. We will maybe also look at some of the big handicaps towards the back end of the season."
