Smullen Suspended after 1st race incident Pat Smullen fell foul of the stewards following his ride of odds-on favourite April in the opening race at Leopardstown. The Stewards enquired into an incident early in the straight where Serious Times, ridden by D.P. Mc Donogh received a check while racing on the rails. Evidence was heard from D.P. Mc Donogh, R.P. Cleary rider of Paddys Lad and P.J. Smullen rider of April, placed fifth. Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P.J. Smullen had ridden carelessly and suspended him for 2 racedays.
