Snowy Likely To Take Novice Route

Trainer Willie Mullins reported that Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup entry Snowy Morning is more likely to contest the Grade 1 Ellier Developments Hanover Quay Champion Novice Chase on Tuesday, April 24, for which he is one of 33 entries revealed today.

'Snowy Morning will go for the novice chase on the first day. He got interfered with by a faller when second in the Royal &SunAlliance Chase at Cheltenham, and it just knocked his concentration briefly, but once he got his game together again he ran on really well,' said Mullins.

'Denman did it the hard way and I'm not sure if we would beat him if we met again, but we have to be happy with the way ours ran. He won't run at Fairyhouse as he sustained a slight injury at home, but we should have him back for Punchestown.

'He has a Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup entry - you've got be in them to win them - and I always like to have a Plan B. But we'll look at the entries and make a decision later on.'

Mullins added that Alexander Taipan, who was travelling well when falling in the P J Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown on February 10, could also reappear at the Irish National Hunt Festival.

'Alexander Taipan has had a little setback but I'm hopeful we'll have him right for Punchestown,' said the Co Carlow trainer. 'I don't know if he would have won last time and he has few options at Punchestown.'
